[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Jay Y. Lee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, delivered remarks on January 28 (local time) at an event held at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, D.C., marking the conclusion of the overseas touring exhibition of the Lee Kun-hee Collection.

The legacy of the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee, donated by the Samsung family to the National Museum of Korea, was introduced overseas for the first time in November last year through an exhibition titled “Korean Treasures: Collecting, Cherishing, and Sharing.” Following its presentation in Washington, the exhibition will continue in Chicago starting in March.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Lee said, “I am honored to welcome the heroes who fought in the Korean War,” adding, “Without the sacrifices of more than 36,000 American veterans who served during the war, Korea would not have been able to achieve the prosperity it enjoys today.”

He also noted, “Even amid hardships such as the Korean War, Founder Lee Byung-chul and the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee held a firm belief in the importance of preserving Korea’s cultural heritage,” and added that “Honorary Director Hong Ra-hee devoted herself to expanding and diversifying the collection, from ancient artifacts to modern and contemporary works.”

During the event, Chairman Lee personally greeted elderly war veterans, engaging them in conversation and expressing his gratitude for their attendance.
